The head temple of the Nichiren Shu sect. Established in 1276 to commemorate the birth of Saint Nichiren. Due to two major earthquakes, the Meio and Genroku earthquakes, and a tsunami, the temple was relocated to its current location. The original location is now underwater offshore. The Niomon Gate is one of the largest structures in the prefecture and is designated as a tangible cultural property of Chiba Prefecture. The scent of incense wafting through the grounds, combined with the briny aroma from the nearby coastline, has been selected as one of the 'Hundred Scenic Spots of Fragrance' by the Ministry of the Environment.

Experience the captivating allure of the 'Mysterious Sea Bream' amidst the awe-inspiring landscapes of the National Natural Park. Kominato holds the esteemed honor of being the birthplace of Nichiren Shonin. Legend has it that upon Nichiren Shonin's birth, a miraculous event unfolded: a spring erupted from the garden, blue lotus flowers blossomed out of season, and a school of sea breams danced upon the surface of the sea.

The phenomenon of sea bream appearing on the sea surface has persisted since the Kamakura period (1185-1333). Villagers have revered the sea bream as an embodiment of Nichiren Shonin since that time. The sea bream of Tai no Ura has been designated as a special national natural treasure, adding to its academic significance.
